No PlayStation LIVE for PS3
game: Playstation 3
news | 11/03/05 | George Holomshek
Sony recently confirmed to Playstation Magazine that they will utilize a non-centralized system for online multiplayer on the PS3, sticking with their departure from Microsoft\'s Xbox Live or Nintendo\'s Wi-Fi Connection services. Sticking with an online gaming strategy similar to how the PS2 currently handles online gaming means that game publishers have much greater flexibility with their online content. It also means that gamers will need different accounts for each game they play online, and also makes it more difficult for developers to insure an even playing ground in online multiplayer.

Super Mario World Level Editor: Build Yourself Some Old School
game: Lunar Magic
news | 11/02/05 | Aaron Stanton
Is there room on a gaming site for news that\'s not exactly new? We think so. Sometimes things that are old are still cool, even if they\'ve slumped a bit below the radar in recent years. The N64 modding community is an excellent example; modders online have been updating old N64 ROMS for years, including replacing old textures with high resolution images, cell-shaded graphics, and other nifty treats. Around for a while or not, Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still cool in our book, especially in high rez. In the same vein, if you\'re looking for something to drain away your time, check out Lunar Magic, a level editor for the SuperNES title Super Mario World. Yeah, it\'s been around for a while, but if you\'ve never seen it, it\'s new to you.

King of Fighters 02/03 Review
game: King Of Fighters 2002/2003
review | 10/27/05 | Matt James
King of Figthers 2002/2003 is another doublepack from SNK highlighting quality ports of their classic franchise. This time around the fighting games get a new online versus mode, but that\'s not nearly enough to make this one appealing to anyone not already a King of Fighters fan. The series is feeling dated to the uninitiated, and for most folks, King of Fighters 2002/2003 is a pass (unless you\'re planning a fun-filled evening of gaming with your dad).

Hideo Kojima Joins the Blogosphere
news | 10/22/05 | Shawn Rider
Hideo Kojima has officially joined the blogosphere. ami.jp/gs/hideoblog_e/\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">Hideoblog, hosted on Konami\'s Kojima Productions site, is an interesting read. It\'s a classic example of bringing some everyday humanity to a legendary figure, and reading Kojima\'s descriptions of checking email while eating lunch and the light reflecting from Tokyo\'s Roppongi Hills brings a real sense of the man behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise. And on some days Kojima is doing things like getting his copy of Hard Boiled autographed by Frank Miller. It\'s a bit surreal, and should be a must-read for any Kojima acolytes. Check it out.

Trace Memory Review
game: Trace Memory
review | 10/12/05 | Laurie Taylor
Trace Memory for the Nintendo DS is a bold take on what an adventure game can be, and it provides a whole new take on the concept of \"all killer, no filler.\" Trace Memory clocks in at a very brief five or six hours, which is definitely not the norm in gaming these days, but those are some of the most enjoyable five or six hours we\'ve seen in an adventure game. Our resident academic gamer, Laurie Taylor, takes a look at this unique title.

news | 10/03/05 | Aaron Stanton
Cyan Worlds, makers of Myst, laid off their entire development crew earlier this month and shut their doors for what the gaming industry assumed was forever. Turns out that\'s not the case. Ryan Miller, co-founder of Cyan Worlds, has confirmed to GamesFirst that the company has rehired some portion of their development team. \"Yes, we have rehired most everyone,\" he said. \"At this point, I can\'t really say more.\" Earlier, MercuryNews.com received similar confirmation from Cyan Worlds.
