news | 09/15/05 | Chris Martin
That's right, it's official. Microsoft has spilled the beans and made our day. But it seems that Europe and Japan will have to wait a little for theirs. Don't worry, it isn't too long. I mean, the WonderSwan is still in use over there...now THAT'S a long time.

Bethesda Releases Screenshots of Oblivion's Level Editor
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 09/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
While some of us can't wait to get our hands on the official release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, others can't wait to get their hands on the map and quest maker. The PC version of the title will ship with a level editor that allows fans of the series to create their own stories and levels independent of the original storyline, just as Elder Scrolls III did. Bethesda and 2K Games have released screenshots of the upcoming editor, and the shots should be of interest to gamers with a creative streak and a desire to make worlds instead of just play in them.

Team Xbox Decodes OrigenXbox360.com?
news | 09/10/05 | Shawn Rider
It looks like Team Xbox figured out the meaning of OrigenXbox360.com. By zooming in on the tree branch near the hole, they revealed a latin phrase, and with the help of a clever reader, they have formed a pretty strong argument that the OrigenXbox360.com site is advertising the September 27 announcement of HALO 3, which has been long-rumored to coincide with the release of the PlayStation 3. Oh, and there's another bunny and some more apples on the tree.

GF! Weekly Wrap-Up
podcast | 09/10/05 | Val Townsend
This week's Weekly Wrap-Up Podcast is a bit late. Why? Well, our beloved Val Townsend, the Atomic Goddess, decided to commandeer a semi-truck, fill it up with generous donations of food, water, and essential items from the fine people of Western New York, and drove it down to Jackson, Mississippi, all on behalf of her radio station, 103.3 WEDG. To top it off, after three days of marathon truck-driving, Val still managed to pull off the Podcast before Midnight tonight. All we can do is look dumb and nod our heads in agreement over how much Val totally freaking ROCKS.

Pretty Colors and Lens Flare: Why Graphics Matter
editorial | 09/08/05 | Shawn Rider
There is a raging debate going on right now about the next generation of gaming consoles. For many, it can be summed up like this: Do prettier graphics justify an entirely new generation? Are the graphics in the next generation enough of an improvement to justify an entirely new generation? With game development cycles getting longer and hardware cycles getting shorter, it's entirely appropriate to address the issue of whether or not the next generation of home consoles is really worth it.

game: Project Gotham Racing 3
news | 09/07/05 | Aaron Stanton
Bizarre Creations has released a panoramic 3-D screenshot of Project Gotham Racing 3 for the Xbox 360. The flash-based screenshot allows you to fly around a McLaren F1 LM to see the car from all sides, and experience a number of the graphical features Bizarre Creations is so excited about, like the blurring effect that simulates the physics of an actual camera. Note the way the light reflects off the windshield, and produces an aurora when in just the right angle from the front-left of the car. The amount of detail that has gone into this game is amazing. Check it out.

Modding Community Gets Head Start on Xbox 360
news | 08/31/05 | Aaron Stanton
Probably the people most passionate about whether or not the Xbox 360 has a hard drive are system modders, who can possibly use the hard drive for everything from stealing games (bad) to running homebrew software (goodish). Now, the makers of the SmartXX mod chip for the Xbox have gotten hold of a number of Xbox 360 development kits. They've opened the system and photographed the insides, which is a pretty good indication that the modding community is already at work on modding the next generation game consoles.
