Bethesda Comments Suggest 360 Hard Drive has Little Effect on Gameplay

Bethesda confirmed that the widely anticipated Xbox 360 title Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will run with or without a hard drive. But what does that mean? Is the $100 hard drive so unimportant that it can be pushed to the side at a whim? We asked Bethesda if they could clarify exactly what difference a hard drive makes in how Oblivion plays. The answer, depending on how you read it, can be either encouraging, or suggest that the role of the hard drive has been pushed to a level of minor importance. GameStop unveiled it's uber-Xbox 360 bundle, the Ultimate, which it offers for $1200. But apparently that just isn't enough Xbox 360 for truly hardcore gamers. Enter the Omega Bundle, everything you could possibly buy for your Xbox 360 at a modest *cough* $2000.

Halo Movie in 2007

Rounding out a Microsoft triple-threat newsday, Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox have announced that they will produce the Halo movie, set for a release in the Summer of 2007. In addition, MS has announced the Halo Triple Pack, which will combine Halo, Halo 2, and the Halo 2 Map Pack in one package.

In a move that looks very similar to the I Love Bees campaign, Microsoft has registered another mysterious site, Origen360.com. This looks a heck of a lot like the early OurColony site, and Microsoft has a long history of using alt-reality gaming to sell us stuff.

Xbox 360 Bundles Have Gamers Throwing Fits

EB Games is the first major retailer to post their Xbox 360 preorder page and reveal that they will be selling the console in two bundles (corresponding to the two flavors Microsoft is releasing) which increase the price of each system by $300. This move does not bode well for gamers this holiday season, who are used to being forced into bad bundles in order to purchase scarce new hardware.

Bethesda Confirms that Oblivion will Utilize Xbox360 Hard Drive

Bethesda, maker of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, has confirmed that their upcoming 360 title will utilize the Xbox 360 hard drive. They also confirm, however, that the game will function on the $300 version of the system, as well, merely pointing out that it would be better to own the system with a hard drive. This begs the question: What's going to be the difference?
