PLAY! Symphony Concert Series Launches World Tour
news | 11/10/05 | George Holomshek
It seems like everytime we turn around these days, some symphony is cashing in on videogames. Who knew those murder simulators would also become music appreciation stimulators? Then again, what better medium to allow composers dozens of hours of time to work with: It\'s like the ultimate symphonic challenge. The recently announced PLAY! tour will bring some more contemporary game music to the orchestra pit, as opposed to other recent symphonic adaptations of classic videogame music. Check the link to tour info and catch it if it\'s coming near you.

IEMA Statement on California's New Anti-Violent Videogame Law
news | 10/12/05 | Shawn Rider
The Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association has released an official statement against a new California law signed into law yesterday by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who claims the law will \"require that violent video games be clearly labeled and not be sold to children under 18 years old.\" That\'s not a bad thing; in fact, games are already clearly labelled and rated for both age and content. And therein lies the problem: California\'s law does not recognize the ratings of the ESRB, and instead imposes a vague set of guidelines which retailers will be legally bound to. Needless to say, this puts retailers in a precarious position: In some way, every title must be separately re-rated in California, but the specifics of how that would work are not there. Click here to read more about the law and retailers\' statement against it.

Early Tactica Online Screenshots
game: Tactica Online
news | 09/21/05 | Aaron Stanton
One of the more interesting items shown at E3 2005 was an early build of Tactica Online. This massively multi-player title separates itself from the dozens of other online games in a number of ways, not the least of which is that it\'s a turn-based strategy game in the likes of Fallout, Jagged Alliance, or X-Com. From gameplay to business strategy (Tactica won\'t charge monthly fees) Tactica Online is trying to be something different. We\'ve picked up a few screenshots of an early build, and it\'s looking pretty interesting.

news | 08/30/05 | Shawn Rider
Dynasty Warriors 5 comes out on September 13. Featuring 48 playable characters and some new gameplay elements, this could be a good one for when killing a dozen or two enemies in an FPS isn\'t enough, and only slaughtering a virtual army of thousands can really take the edge off.

Sony unveiled their Eye Toy at E3. It\'s basically a hi-res webcam that perches on top of your TV set to \'put\' you in the game. Right now it plays a dozen simple titles that are mostly hardware demos. We can\'t wait to use it for those late night sultry gamer webchats... I\'ll bet GTfan4798 is just as hot as he sounds...

Which Console Should I Buy?
Articles Archive | 06/01/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
About a dozen times a day I get an email asking me which console someone should buy. A complete stranger expects me to be able to tell them right off the cuff where to put their $200. I feel a lot of responsibility to our readers, so I often write long letters asking what games they like, who the console is for, etc. (I do get a lot of letters from moms and dads asking which console system to purchase for their children.) Every year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo we get to see the lay of the land, and I was hoping that a clear answer to the quandry of which console to invest in would manifest itself. It's both good and bad that there is still no clear winner in the console wars.

EDITORIAL - Best PC Titles of E3 2000
| 01/01/00 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
After digging ourselves out from under the digital press kits and betas, here are what we think will the top dozen games of 2000. But first, a few caveats: we chose not to include any of the games that we chose as best of show for last year--that means that some excellent games--like Shogun, Diablo II, Deus Ex, Giants, and Oni-- will not be listed below. And we also decided not to include a few most excellent games that will be released in the very near future--including Sierra\'s Ground Control and Activisions\' Vampire: The Masquerade and Dark Reign 2.

Sales will rise exponentially as the holiday season approaches. In fact, schoolyard gossip could spark a remarkable rise in sales this weekend. But what about Sega?
