Gunstar Heroes Review
game: Gunstar Heroes
review | 02/20/06 | RJ Brooks
Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis is one of the most amazing action-platformer titles of the 16-bit era. Released in 1993 with minimum promotion, the game never took off in terms of sales like it deserved. Instead, it has attained a level of cult status very few games receive, but developers always hope will occur for their projects. Part two in our six-part Treasure retrospective, this retro review of Gunstar Heroes should make clear why gamers still return to its action-packed gameplay.

From the \"Worlds Collide\" newsbin, it looks like Capcom and Ubisoft are cozying up for some cross-platform releases. Ubisoft has just announced a deal with Capcom to release Resident Evil 4, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante\'s Awakening Special Edition for the PC. These are three large console games, but will the PC gaming public take it all in stride? Get the details here.

Booth Babes: An Ongoing Controversy
feature | 01/26/06 | Shawn Rider
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced yesterday that they would enforce a $5000 fine on any company who violates a more modest \"booth babes\" policy at their Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), to be held May 10-12, 2006 in Los Angeles. E3 has long been known in part for the models companies hire to attract attendees to their booths. Some companies hire people dressed like main characters, others just hire a few pretty ladies with fancy underwear.

Coverage of this story inspired us to re-post a GamesFirst! classic. Back in 2001 we did a short documentary at E3 delving into the question of Booth Babes. We\'ve re-encoded it for iPod support (should work for all PC platforms, too), and we\'re re-releasing the video today. Check it out.

Final Fantasy XI 360 Beta Released
game: Final Fantasy XI
preview | 01/25/06 | Matt James
Final Fantasy has been a holdout series, maintaining its PlayStation 2 exclusivity for the larger part of this previous generation. (Square Enix did give in and release some Final Fantasy games for Gamecube and GBA in the past few years.) The Xbox 360 will break down those walls. Not only is Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi bringing a series of exclusive games to Xbox 360 with his new company, but Final Fantasy XI will arrive on the platform, too. The latest copy of Xbox Magazine features a Final Fantasy XI beta test disc for Xbox 360 owners. If you\'re a fan of FF, then you\'ll want to check this out. Our man, Matt James, has the rundown on the beta test experience.

Philips Entertaible Debuts at CES
game: Philips Entertaible
preview | 01/05/06 | Shawn Rider
Philips has a crazy idea: Put a 30\" touch sensitive LCD monitor into a sturdy wooden table, make some digital-smarty pawns and dice, and let game developers go crazy on a hybrid digital and real-world based console platform. But it\'s more than a crazy idea: It\'s the Entertaible, and it\'s being shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show 2006. The Entertaible is set to redefine board games and brings us multiplayer touch-oriented gaming. If touching is good by yourself, it must be even better in a group. Get the details on the Philips Entertaible in our preview.

Mario Kart DS Review
game: Mario Kart DS
review | 11/24/05 | George Holomshek
Mario Kart is the OG Kart racer: It is the standard by which all other kart racing games have been judged, and that looks unlikely to change. Mario Kart DS brings the game to Nintendo\'s newest handheld platform, and adds online multiplayer for the first time ever. NDS owners have been hyped about this one, and the hype was justified, according to our resident Nintendophile, George, who took Mario Kart DS on a spin around the block for us.

Crash Tag Team Racing Review
game: Crash Tag Team Racing
review | 11/17/05 | Matt James
Crash Tag Team Racing comes a year after the old Double-Dash did in the venerable Mario Kart on Gamecube and double-dashed the hopes of many a fan. But don\'t be fooled by the immediate resemblance here: Crash Tag Team Racing might look like a Double-Dash rip-off, but in reality it has much more to offer. Combining a quality Crash platformer with zany, fast-paced racing action, Crash Tag Team Racing is unlike any other game we\'ve played. Still not convinced? OK, then, two words: Ninja Penguins. \'Nuff said. Check Matt\'s review here.

One of the titles we\'re most excited about this Fall is Peter Jackson\'s King Kong, the game based on the movie. Why Nintendo Gets It, or Why Sony Should Start Trying
editorial | 09/17/05 | Shawn Rider
With the announcement of the Revolution controller, Nintendo has proven that, at least some of the time, they really \"get\" it. Get what? Gaming. In a next-gen lineup that has been, frankly, a total snooze-fest, the Revolution has finally shown us a sliver of light, which we think will broaden into a bright new direction for game design to explore. While Sony and Microsoft are content to release platform upgrades, it looks like Nintendo is the only one attempting to move gaming to a new generation.

E3 2005: Aeon Flux: A First Look
game: E3 2005: Aeon Flux: A First Look
preview | 05/28/05 | Monica Hafer
Aeon Flux has become a cult phenomenon. With a movie and a game launching almost simultaneously, we'll have enough fluxifaction to sustain even a city park full of fanboys (and girls). We have first impressions of the game directly from the E3 floor and Monica talked with game Producer Raymond Holmes about the title.
