Click to read.Electronic Arts sends word that the release date for the PC, Xbox, and PS2 versions of The Godfather will be March 21, 2006 in North America and March 24, 2006 in Europe. EA also has Xbox 360 and PSP versions of the game in development, but stated only that those versions would be available later in 2006.

The Godfather videogame is based on Francis Ford Coppola\'s classic 1972 film, has been in development for a few years now, and allows players to create their own gangster within the world created by the film. Gamers will do missions for one of five mob families, some of which will have them reenacting key scenes from the movie.

With voice acting by famous players from the film, including some of Marlon Brando\'s last recorded work, EA has been pouring on the resources to make The Godfather live up to its cinema franchise heritage. In all honesty, making a game based on such a huge license is a double-edged sword: Plenty of people who love the movie will check out the game, but it will be hard to satisfy every fan\'s expectations. The more pre-existing fans, the more expectations.

We\'ll definitely be keeping an eye out for The Godfather on PC, Xbox and PS2 in March, 2006. In the meantime, EA shared a few new screens with us. Check those out, and check out our previous coverage here.
