Lost Planet Review

Capcom has been firing on all cyllinders when it comes to the Xbox 360 and gamers with that small white box could not be happier. Following their critically received efforts of Dead Rising, Lost Planet is a third-person shooter set on the fictitious ice-planet E.D.N. III where there are snow pirates around every corner and loads of alien Akrid. This unique IP blends a "vastness" found in sci-fi novels like Frank Herbert's Dune with an overly complex (the word would be: incomprehensible) storyline. What you get is an action-filled shooter that manages, once or twice, to even shoot itself in the foot.

We couldn't be happier. Finally, Peter Molyneux's team of jokesters and homage heralds are hard at work on the sequel to one of the most promising (and overhyped) games ever to grace a console. E3 is on the horizon, and we're all aching to see what is coming down the road for the future of gaming. Right now the inventive minds behind Onimusha and Devil May Cry are working hard on Lost Planet for the Xbox 360. Large robots played a role in the launch of the original Xbox with MechAssualt, and now Capcom hopes to use big robots again to push the Xbox 360 firmly into the next generation of gaming. With seamless environments and a mix of gameplay styles (in-Mech and on foot), Lost Planet might be just the thing to keep the Xbox 360 fresh and selling strong come December. Though it's a ways off, we're still eager to play some of this incredible looking actioneer. Read why inside!

Fable: The Lost Chapters Review

Fable was a major game for Xbox, and in many ways it was a disappointment: It was quick, and many of the insanely innovative game ideas we originally heard about were tamed into merely interesting or innovative ideas. In the end, it could never shake the glory of what had initially been promised when legendary designer Peter Molyneaux first spoke about Fable. Now the Xbox receives the polished and buffed version of Fable that was released earlier this Fall for the PC. Fable: The Lost Chapters adds a bunch of new content to the game, ranging from new bosses to new moves and spells. It's a welcome addition to the game, and reminds us why Fable remains a game every Xbox owner must play: It's fun. Get the full review from Chris Martin right here.

Lost Garden Challenges Conventional Wisdom of Game Industry

Danc from Lost Garden ruffled a lot of feathers with his article about Nintendo's Revolution controller a couple months ago (as did all the greatest gaming websites). Now he's come out again with another sharp bit of criticism and advice for the industry: Broaden your horizons, or remain a niche form of entertainment. It's easy to forget about how few gamers there really are when we put ourselves into communities where everyone shares our interests. Why is there such a crisis about getting women involved in gaming? Because ultimately, the games industry cannot survive if it does not diversify, both in the people who make games and in the people who play games. Danc's article is an absolute must-read for anyone who truly loves games.

Cyan Worlds Confirms They're Back

Cyan Worlds, makers of Myst, laid off their entire development crew earlier this month and shut their doors for what the gaming industry assumed was forever. Turns out that's not the case. Ryan Miller, co-founder of Cyan Worlds, has confirmed to GamesFirst that the company has rehired some portion of their development team. "Yes, we have rehired most everyone," he said. "At this point, I can't really say more." Earlier, MercuryNews.com received similar confirmation from Cyan Worlds. Is it possible the game industry has not really lost one of its original pioneers? Sounds like it.

When Fable was originally announced on the PC, it was going to be one of the greatest, most complicated RPGs ever created. That was the theory, at least.
