game: God of War: Chains of Olympus
review | 03/31/08 | Shawn Rider
Everyone\'s favorite bloodthirsty Spartan is back, and, as usual, he\'s pissed. In this prequel to the other two God of War titles, you\'ll help Kratos save the planet from eternal darkness. God of War: Chains of Olympus delivers the same insane action and impeccable quality of the previous PlayStation 2 editions, and that is an accomplishment for a title with both a brand new developer (the capable Ready at Dawn) and a brand new console. This is the best reason so far to blow the dust off your PSP. Check out our review.
game: Street Fighter IV
news | 10/18/07 | George Holomshek
So here\'s some news to brighten your day. Over in London Capcom just dropped a megaton with the revelation of Street Fighter IV, the first true sequel to the epic fighter series in a decade. Many gamers see their SF skills as a point of pride, and we may be set to enter a whole new era of trash talking.
game: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
news | 10/10/07 | Chris Martin
Several
poorly doctored videos have been circulating the interweb regarding the blue blur\'s inclusion in Super Sm
ash Bros. Brawl. But today, according to
Gemaga\'s Live Blog, and then re-reported by 1UP, Nintendo has rolled a new trailer for Super Sm
ash Bros. Brawl with Sonic the Hedgehog \"jumping, spinning, and even turning into Super Sonic.\" I think Nintendo just sold another ten million Wii...
editorial | 09/17/07 | Chris Martin
This article came by way of
Shacknews, but originated from
Pro-G who reported (citing some insider info) that Sony is likely to announce at TGS a new Dual Shock (we are only on #2, at this point) in an effort to cover their bloodied SIXAXIS tracks right into your living room. The rumored \"update\" looks an attempt to curb the potty mouths of internet users and Sony b
ashers everywhere, and comes hot off negotiations with rumble manufacturers (and patent holders)
Immersion. And it\'s about damn time, since the PlayStation pioneered rumble anyway. Now that rumble is being reconsidered in the PS3, is it enough? Will it be enough? We give our two cents.
game: Bioshock
news | 08/13/07 | Chris Martin
This came out of nowhere. The studio formerly known as Irrational (they changed their two divisions\' names to 2K Australia and 2K Boston) get a big pat on the back for sneaking their demo onto Xbox Live on Sunday. Bioshock, which puts you through the eyes of a crash victim who gets stuck in the underwater dystopia known only as Rapture, just went gold last week. Now, we\'ll get to sample what we\'re betting is going to be a ground-braking experience.

Another attempt by yet another state of the union to pass an unconstitutional bill prohibiting the sale of \'violent\' videogames to minors has been squashed.
The bill, which would have imposed a $1000 dollar fine on any retailer if they sold a violent video game to minors, has before now seen preliminary injunction in late 2005, otherwise it would have gone into effect January 1, 2006. Since then the bill was pending investigation...
game: Eragon
review | 01/15/07 | Jason Perkins
The story behind the first Eragon book, movie, and video game is an interesting one, starting with a home-schooled student that published his book at 19 years old. Now, with a movie that is being universally trashed by reviewers, the Eragon video game has come forward to redeem the franchise from embarrassment. Sadly, its repetitive gameplay and incoherent storytelling don\'t do Eragon much justice, portraying the world as nothing but an endless stream of bad guys with frustrating gameplay. The movie and book have been accused of being derivative of classics like Star Wars; the video game doesn\'t present a coherent enough story to be accused of being derivative of anything.
game: Paraworld
review | 11/12/06 | George Holomshek
How many times have we been left feeling unfulfilled because we can\'t find an RTS with the perfect balance. You know—the precise mix of dinosaurs, ninjas and flamethrowers for which our mousing fingers lust. And just to prove that the gods of gaming are benevolent (and capricious), Aspyr brings us Paraworld, a real-time strategy game that mixes wacky units with solid gameplay. Get the full story from our man, George.

It\'s about damn time the video game industry got a respectable awards ceremony (that\'s a big f#$%-you to Spike TV, by the way). BAFTA actually has given awards to games that deserve them. To all the development companies out there, who put so much hard work into their games, there\'s finally a way to give to them the honor and respect they deserve. This is truly a first step to viewing video games as an art form. This year, LocoRoco and Tom Clany\'s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter get their due, as do Lego Star Wars II: the Original Trilogy, Dr. Kawashima\'s Brain Training: How Old is Your Brain?, and The Movies, among others.
game: Nancy Drew: Danger by Design
review | 09/25/06 | Laurie Taylor
Nancy Drew is fast becoming known as a video game character combating stereotypes. Yes, you read correctly, on top of being an adolescent sleuth she\'s also a kick-in-the-teeth to top-heavy, silver-haired bombshells who are so prevalent in gaming nowadays. In \"Danger by Design,\" Nancy takes on the fashion and food industries in classic adventure game point-and-click fare. Our girl game guru Lauri is here to tell us why Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is great for young girl gamers and also gets a parental--as well as political--seal of approval.

game: Ninja Gaiden III: the Ancient Ship of Doom
feature | 09/22/06 | Chris Martin
Ninjas will be ninjas. That\'s the story from Ninja Gaiden III, the link between Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II. In this week\'s edition of That Retro Review, Chris tackles the tough, nay, the nigh-impossible, Ninja Gaiden III: the Ancient Ship of Doom. He slaughtered Clancy, and took out the BIO-NOID trash. Come on in, it\'s ninja magic time, baby!

Joystiq recently found themselves in the cross-hairs of the gaming community after they published a misleading headline on their site. The backlash from the gaming community, which accused them of over-hyping content for the sake of increased traffic, has been strong. Joystiq issued a public apology (good) and then fired the responsible poster (bad). In this editorial, Aaron Stanton takes a look at whether their actions were the right thing to do.

Only hours away from the start of the Penny-Arcade Exposition in Washington, Penny-Arcade has let slip a new project of theirs. The Penny-Arcade webcomic has partnered with Hothead Games to produce video games based on the characters of their popular online comic. The games are going to be designed for Windows, OSX, and Linux at first, with an aim to translate to the home console somewhere down the road. The games will be downloadable and episodic. Beyond that, the details have yet to arrive. Check out this report to read everything we know so far.

Since Half-Life made \"WSAD\" input the standard for all first person shooters, numerous efforts have been made to make a keyboard aimed at gamers, and most have failed miserably. The WolfKing Warrior doesn\'t so much fall flat on its face, as it does smash its wolfy snout right into hard pavement.
