Game With Fame: Play Against Famous Rejection
news | 12/11/06 | Aaron Stanton
Sometimes funny things happen when advertising campaigns collide. In the latest Game With Fame opportunity, gamers are being given the chance to play online via Xbox Live with The Burger King. That\'s right, some lucky gamers will have the chance to play against a celebrity opponent that doesn\'t say anything ever. While I can still see how the idea is amusing, there\'s an irony behind giving people a chance to sit down and chat online with someone that\'s not going to say anything back. When it all boils down to it, you\'ll be talking to an empty void for the length of the game. On the upside, you do get to also play with the New York Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma, but it\'s easy to see which of the two celebrities that Game With Fame is pushing: You register to play at bkgamer.com.

Gears of War: What is it Good For?
game: Gears of War
editorial | 12/07/06 | Chris Martin
Microsoft\'s Gears of War gets lots of things right. It offers an intense single/co-op campaign, a \"sweet-spot\" versus multiplayer of 4v4, and some of the best presentation ever in a videogame. But it also fumbles here and there in ways we would have liked to see ironed out. In this editorial, we analyze what we would love to see kept or improved on in the sequel.

Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators Review, or Why 2D Games Still Rock
game: Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators
review | 06/01/06 | Chris Martin
Games like Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Freelancer have become famous for their open-ended and near endless gameplay. With incredibly diverse player choice and a universe that\'s randomly generated each time you start a new campaign, Space Rangers 2 looks to give both titles a run for their money. The 2D RTS/3D Turn-based Strategy/Action title mixes a bit of everything into a game that\'s easily capable of taking on Oblivion in terms of the ability to go anywhere, and do anything. Space Rangers 2 is an unexpected gem that you\'ve probably not heard about, but should have.

Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath Review
game: Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath
review | 12/31/05 | George Holomshek
An interesting hybrid of real-time and turn-based strategy play, Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath does its best to set itself apart from the masses of other strategy games. Set in a hypothetical alternate history that posits the Cuban Missile Crisis led to catastrophic nuclear war, the game has a lot going for it: Optional missions, nuclear wastelands, several different campaigns based on different superpowers. There is a lot to like here, but can Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath stand out among the faceless masses of hardcore war games? George has the review.

Movies Made by The Movies
game: The Movies
news | 12/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
The Movies has disappointed a lot of people by being a great sim game, but a less than flexible Machinima tool. The sandbox mode, instead of being an unlimited playground for creative use, is limited in some respects by what you\'ve unlocked in the campaign mode. In an attempt to highlight the fan community\'s use of their game as a way to express themselves, Activision is bringing attention to one fan created movie called, \"The French Democracy.\" And they\'ve chosen well. Retelling the events of the French riots in October of 2005, it\'s easily one of the most interesting examples of using The Movies as a creative tool we\'ve seen.

Call of Duty 2: Big Red One Review
game: Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
review | 12/10/05 | George Holomshek
Activision\'s Call of Duty series has been a big hit, so it\'s only natural that fans are excited about Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One. Exploring the campaigns of Russia, Central Europe and North Africa, Call of Duty 2 offers a cinematic FPS experience that is intense and gritty. Smoke and dirt and explosive action makes the visuals as beautiful as they are terrifying. George has battled through COD2: The Big Red One on the current-gen consoles, and has brought back this report from the front.

Shattered Union Review
game: Shattered Union
review | 11/28/05 | Rick Fehrenbacher
While Shattered Union offers a great setting (near-future American Civil War) along with your basic old school turn-based wargaming, it doesn\'t do nearly enough with the setting, and the turn-based tactical game is unfortunately overshadowed by a god-awful campaign mode. Rick delivers the bottom line in his review.

Far Cry: Instincts Review
game: Far Cry: Instincts
review | 10/28/05 | Chris Martin
Jack Carver\'s back and he\'s got an itch to hunt. With some additions here and there, and a mostly retooled single player campaign, Far Cry: Instincts is an ambitious project. And now, Ubisoft\'s and Crytek\'s PC port arrives on Xbox in a most surprising way. What makes it so surprising? Well, you\'ll have to read the review and find out, McCartney, this ain\'t no free ticket-to-ride.

OrigenXbox360.com - Another MS Viral Marketing Site
news | 08/24/05 | Shawn Rider
In a move that looks very similar to the I Love Bees campaign, Microsoft has registered another mysterious site, Origen360.com. This looks a heck of a lot like the early OurColony site, and Microsoft has a long history of using alt-reality gaming to sell us stuff.
