Dead Rising for Real in the Name of Child's Play
news | 11/27/06 | Aaron Stanton
In an odd and yet fortunate turn of events, GamesFirst editor Aaron Stanton has been invited to publicly humiliate himself for the sake of video games. By locking himself in a mall for 5 days he has a chance to win a PS3. If we can end up with a system in hand, we\'re going to go ahead and donate that sucker to Penny Arcade\'s Child\'s Play charity. But before we do that, we\'re going to try to get it signed by the last people on earth you\'d expect: Sony\'s rival Microsoft. We\'re taking it to Microsoft with an open invitation to the Xbox developers to sign the system with whatever personal messages they might have for Sony. It\'s just our little way to make the system a bit more of a collectors item before being auctioned away to raise money for sick children across the United States. Twoplayer Comic: Modest Proposal Gone Wrong
game: PSP
comic | 10/24/05 | Aaron Stanton
Jack Thompson\'s letter offering to donate $10,000 may have been satirical, but not nearly satirical enough. A number of games designed to meet his criteria have sprung up across the Internet, evidently eager to top the lawyer\'s demand. It\'s a good thing that Jonathan Swift\'s proposal, the one which Thompson compares his own letter to, was a bit more obvious. Crazy things could have happened. Check out this week\'s twoplayer comic, A Modest Proposal Gone Wrong.

Twoplayer game comics are published every Sunday at http://comics.gamesfirst.com.

Excellent Discussion of WoW Plague on NPR
game: World of Warcraft
news | 10/08/05 | Shawn Rider
NPR\'s All Things Considered has an excellent piece covering the recent Corrupted Blood plague in World of Warcraft. They consult everyone from computer mediated social interactions expert Sherry Turkle to other scientists and epidemiologists. The piece also features players discussing their experiences and covers some examples of in-game philanthropy as players donated resurrections and cures to other players who had died in the plague. It\'s a quick audio file, and definitely worth the download. Get it here.

Bungie Asks Halo Fans to Fight the Flood
game: Halo 2
news | 09/04/05 | Shawn Rider
Bungie has made a clever t-shirt that it is selling to help out victims of Hurricane Katrina. It\'s cool because not only are they donating $15 for every $20 shirt sold directly and immediately to the American Red Cross, but the shirt is actually a clever Halo \"flood\" joke. And it\'s tasteful. Bravo Bungie. Click view the shirt in the Bungie store.

SOE Asks EQ2 Players to Assist Hurricane Survivors
game: Everquest 2
news | 09/03/05 | Shawn Rider
Proving that custom commands are not only for ordering pizzas, Sony Online Entertainment has added a \"/donate\" command to Everquest II, and is asking its players to donate to the American Red Cross to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina. We at GamesFirst! applaud this effort and urge our readers to also support hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
