game: Too Human
preview | 07/18/08 | Chris Martin
This terribly cold, strenuous year has entered it's warming period. Twentysomethings venture to the park for volleyball or soccer. Some throw frisbees or discs, if you prefer the neutral term. Also, the demo for Too Human has hit Live Marketplace. We suggest you go download it and play it. It's a game with as much controversy as variety, as little tact as subtlety.

news | 10/27/07 | Chris Martin

And actually, it's the best download for Forza 2 yet. Because of the unique design of the Twin Rings we get not one, but four different tracks. Details inside. The pack is 400 Microsoft Points.
game: Project Gotham Racing 4
review | 10/24/07 | Chris Martin
Fans of racing games take note: Project Gotham Racing 4 is a dream come true--lots of exotic cars, tons of tracks, weather effects, Bulldog Mode, and a rock-solid career mode to boot. Oh yeah, and motorcycles. PGR4 might be working a gamer niche that is already supersaturated by the likes of Forza, PGR3, and Burnout. But it still manages, despite it's competition, to be a furiously enjoyable racer with more variety than it perhaps knows what to do with.

review | 10/08/07 | Chris Martin
You've been watching The Ticker, you've seen the reviews, you've been playing the game. Halo 3 has had a phenomenal launch, selling over 2 million copies in the first night of release. We've taken the good Master Chief into the heart of the ark, killed hundreds of thousands of Covenant, and rescued Cortana from the clutches of the Gravemind. Now here's our review of the most anticipated videogame of 2007. Is Halo 3 still the reason to own an Xbox 360?
news | 10/05/07 | Chris Martin
There have been rumors aplenty since the explosive launch of Halo 3. The rumors pointed to the an "insider" who said Bungie and Microsoft will be parting ways, and that, as we just received word, is true. Bungie Studios will become an independents developer, although Microsoft will retain the rights to the Halo franchise, and Bungie will still be focusing mainly on Microsoft's platform. Quote Harold Ryan, Studio head for Bungie, "We will continue to develop with our primary focus on Microsoft's platforms; we greatly value our mutually prosperous relationship with our publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, and we look forward to continuing that affiliation through 'Halo' and beyond."

game: Gears of War
editorial | 09/20/07 | Chris Martin
Gears of War is considered one of the best shooters on the Xbox 360, scratch that, one of the best shooters period. But But Epic's gruesome stop-and-popper is still second best on Xbox Live losing to a last generation Halo 2. It's a great game, sure, but it has problems. Serious problems. Find out why Chris would be so quick to toss GoW to the wind, perhaps you sympathize.
game: Halo 3 ActionClix

If you can't get it, this crazy hype of Microsoft's, out of your head, we have the salvation for you. A "little" salvation. A "tiny" treasure. A "diminutive" diversion. Halo 3 just six days away, and Halo ActionClix invades your favorite hobby store. There's nothing small about it, this tabletop game is going to be huge.

While we here in Seattle get to watch the Mariners crumble in what was a pretty decent year, we also get front page Microsoft
news, regularly. Today, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported
that the European Court of First Instance, in a move upholding key elements of the March 2004 European Commission Decision, declared the American company responsible for misusing it's Windows monopoly. Specifically, the company packages Windows Media Player with their Windows software, a la
trojan horse, allowing market dominance of the software. Microsoft
to EU court: "the decision on the Media Player opens a dangerous precedent for other companies and sectors. Airbus should start worrying about adding new features to their planes."
game: Project Gotham Racing 4

For a game to share a name with the hometown of a certain caped crusader and to become one of Microsoft's flagship series is kind of mindboggling. Project Gotham Racing 4 has become the place to go for mostly arcade, semi-simulation racing. It's a game about looking good while winning, and in the fourth iteration, Bizarre has added some features to make you look even better. This game is looking gorgeous, and we can't wait for it to get here. In the meanwhile, here are some pics from the new "Photo Mode" and some very sexy pics at that.

We travel fathoms under the ocean to Rapture, a city built on the most basic of ideals: "a man is entitled to the sweat from his brow." A dystopia, like all dystopias, are built to fail. We are not surprised then, when Rapture, brainchild of Andrew Ryan, takes on water (by the deciliters), and you're trapped right in the middle of it. Full impressions and expectations inside.
game: Fable 2
news | 08/08/07 | Chris Martin
Some incorporate, others innovate. Peter Molyneux is the kind of developer that makes you want to give him a big hug. He's the kind of developer that is not satisfied with the way games are and insists
that he innovate. He is the kind of man who gets an idea and runs with it. Recently, Peter Molyneux, in an interview and combat demonstration with Kikizo
, had a lot to say about the state of combat in video games, and a lot to say about how Fable 2 would change it all, forever.

Just arrived on Xbox Live today are two new demos. Eternal Sonata from Namco Bandai is likely to satisfy all those eager for a JRPG on Microsoft's console, and Vampire Rain, which is, something else entirely. I personally am excited for Eternal Sonata, as I haven't played a JRPG in some time and it looks fantastic from previews. I'm less excited for the universally panned Vampire Rain, where you're an elite special forces unit sent to thin out the vampire ranks. Impressions forthcoming.

Microsoft has made it official today that the Xbox 360 Premium will see a price drop of $50. Although for many this will seem old hat (as Microsoft is, apparently, no keeper of secrets), but it's nice to know anyway. The Core system will have a $20 price drop and the Elite will have a $30 price drop.
Microsoft also announced the pricing of their Halo 3 Special Edition (which features a sweet system: see article for pics) which will go for $399.99, the Premiums original price.
