game: Command & Conquer 3
review | 07/27/07 | Chris Martin
It you asked us three years ago if console gamers would get a decent real time strategy game in the next-generation, our response would have probably been resounding: \"I wouldn\'t hold your breath.\" We were surprised, fellow readers, not to have only a single decent strategy game come to the Xbox 360, but to have two. Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth has already been critically received, and now Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars gets the royal treatment. If setting Orcs upon a faction of Elves doesn\'t get your heart racing, perhaps setting a herd of mammoth tanks on unsuspecting Nod extremists will.
game: Playstation 3
editorial | 12/14/06 | Aaron Stanton
The PS3 has not had an easy launch. While the mainstream media has been treating the system very MTV-like (with unquestioning adoration), Sony\'s street credit amongst the hardcore has been taking almost daily blows. From problems with HDTV support to shortages at launch, Sony just hasn\'t been getting the positive consumer response they probably wanted. Now, Joystiq.com is reporting on a YouTube video that highlights just how bad PS2 games look when run on the PS3\'s backwards compatibility. The side-by-side comparison video between a PS2 game running on the PS3 vs. an actual PS2 is really fairly stunning. The PS2 beats the PS3 hands down, and does so clearly enough that you don\'t have to be picky to notice the difference. Check out the article for more information.

In Part 2 of our two part \"
Response and Rebuttal,\" our two debaters, Chris Martin and Garrett G have been going at it over the function of videogame violence studies after Chris\' post
\"Videogame Violence Causes Subdued Reactions.\" In the premier part, Garrett had accused Chris of having the wrong target for his criticism. Here\'s how Chris responded...

Sometimes we recieve emails that lead to internal debates. Sometimes, those debates rage out of control; sometimes they become enlightening. After posting
\"Videogame Violence Causes Subdued Reactions\" we recieved feedback, some positive, some negative. But there was one
response that needed to be shared with the gaming community because its outcome was more enlightening and honest than we had anticipated.
game: Dungeon Siege 2: Broken World
news | 08/16/06 | Aaron Stanton
In-game advertising will have a large impact on the future of the game industry. Not only can it represent another form of post-release content delivery, it helps fund the developers that make the games we love. However, there\'s bound to be some bad implementations as the technology gets going, where game companies test their boundaries to see what gamers will accept. 2K and Gas Powered Games included a voiced NPC in Dungeon Siege II: Broken World that directly references an upcoming PSP game, and it\'s sparked a bit of a negative response from gamers. Take a look here for the details.

Sometimes articles rub people the wrong way. Sometimes somebody criticises a beloved video game, or says the wrong thing in an editorial about Nintendo. Sometimes, though, they just mention the fact that they\'re a girl that happens to play games. This week\'s twoplayer comic is partially in
response to the reader reaction we got from an article we published last week called,
A Look Behind Alice: A Woman\'s Reason for Gaming. The character profile of a casual gamer was received with mixed results.
Did You Say Something? is this week\'s twoplayer comic.
Twoplayer game comics are published weekly at

Chris Kohler, contributor to Wired Magazine, had a chance to take Nintendo\'s Revolution for a run while he was at the Tokyo Game Show, and he\'s opened himself to questions. He\'s generously
started a thread over on the Gaming-Age forums where he offers to answer people\'s requests for information. While the questions are not always great, Chris\'s
responses are very informative, including discussing Metroid and how it felt on the controller. We personally don\'t recommend reading every post on the forum, but we do recommend that you scan down the page looking for every post by Kobun Heat, which is Chris Kohler\'s handle. That\'s where the goodies are.
game: Nintendo Revolution
editorial | 09/16/05 | Aaron Stanton
Nintendo has pulled the Revolution controller from its magic hat, and the gaming community is now reeling in surprise. Initial responses around GamesFirst have ranged from, \"Wow,\" to, \"That\'s the ugliest thing I\'ve ever seen.\" How well the controller works depends on the quality of games Nintendo and third party developers can produce. Another question, though: After months of fan mock-ups and fake Revolution photos, did any of them get it right? Did anyone get even close? Turns out one or two did.
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 08/27/05 | Aaron Stanton
Bethesda confirmed that the widely anticipated Xbox 360 title Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will run with or without a hard drive. But what does that mean? Is the $100 hard drive so unimportant that it can be pushed to the side at a whim? We asked Bethesda if they could clarify exactly what difference a hard drive makes in how Oblivion plays. The answer, depending on how you read it, can be either encouraging, or suggest that the role of the hard drive has been pushed to a level of minor importance. Read Bethesda\'s response, and decide for yourself.

There's no time better in the gaming industry than Christmas, partly because there's always an excess of quality holiday titles hitting the shelves, but also partly because it's the one time of year when someone else might join in the feeding of our gaming habits. It's a time of possibility; a time when not only is it possible to maybe get free games, but if classics like Miracle on 34th Street are to be believed, also, maybe, things like houses and stuff. So when we here at GF! asked a number of our crew what they really wanted for Christmas, we didn't let them be limited by anything like reality. Be sure to read Part I of our GamesFirst! Christmas Wishlist, where we reveal the true depth of our gaming addictions (a few of the responses may lead to psychiatric evaluations, and probably at least one committal? it happens every year). Only 9 days and counting!

Every day I get a ton of email asking me which console system to purchase. My stock response is \"All of them,\" but that isn\'t satisfying for most folks. So in the interest of public service, here\'s my answer to you question: Which Console Should I Buy?
