The Simpsons Game: Best. Simpsons Game. Ever.
game: The Simpsons Game
review | 04/06/08 | Shawn Rider
The Simpsons are a perennial videogame topic. Many of the games created in the franchise are utterly forgettable. (Anyone up for a round of Simpsons Wrestling? Didn\'t think so...) But there have been a few well-done Simpsons games: Simpsons Hit and Run (a GTA clone) and The Simpsons Road Rage (a Crazy Taxi clone) were both enjoyable. The Simpsons Game isn\'t a direct rip-off of any particular game. It sticks to a platform/action approach and uses the whole world of videogames for its satirical fodder. The result is a Simpsons game that may be slightly less polished in terms of gameplay but is easily the game that feels most like a real Simpsons episode. Check out our review for more.

game: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
review | 11/21/07 | George Holomshek
Harmonix may have moved on to Rock Band, but the Guitar Hero franchise still goes strong. The third Guitar Hero features online play, a great song list, and the best fake guitar money can buy. But did Tony Hawk developer Neversoft shred this one up too much? Do a few glaring issues keep this hero from saving the day?

Game With Fame: Play Against Famous Rejection
news | 12/11/06 | Aaron Stanton
Sometimes funny things happen when advertising campaigns collide. In the latest Game With Fame opportunity, gamers are being given the chance to play online via Xbox Live with The Burger King. That\'s right, some lucky gamers will have the chance to play against a celebrity opponent that doesn\'t say anything ever. While I can still see how the idea is amusing, there\'s an irony behind giving people a chance to sit down and chat online with someone that\'s not going to say anything back. When it all boils down to it, you\'ll be talking to an empty void for the length of the game. On the upside, you do get to also play with the New York Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma, but it\'s easy to see which of the two celebrities that Game With Fame is pushing: You register to play at bkgamer.com.

Just Cause Review
game: Just Cause
review | 10/25/06 | Sean Hilliard
You are a rugged, sexy operative ordered to take down a whole country, and no matter how many times you have to jump out of that airplane, hijack that automobile, or jump through the blades of a moving helicopter you\'re going to kill that guy, or save that guy, or find that item! In Just Cause, regime change is the goal, and it\'s up to you, your trusty parachute, and a grappling hook to revolutionize a whole South American state. But before you go getting all hopped up on your School of the Americas delusions of grandeur, be sure to check Sean\'s review. Otherwise, don\'t blame us for the harsh realization that even parachutes can\'t make repetitive mission-based infiltration worth playing...

Saint's Row Review
game: Saint's Row
review | 09/16/06 | Sean Hilliard
Saint\'s Row is unmistakably influenced by Grand Theft Auto, but it manages to improve on the GTA formula in certain aspects. And why not? It took Rockstar almost a decade to get gamers into airplanes for crying out loud. And this is the 21st Century! Shouldn\'t we be able to save without retreating to a hideout? And for all of everyone\'s talk about the GTA games being open-ended, free-roaming adventures, they\'re actually incredibly linear narratives constrained by Hollywood cliches. Join the free-roaming revolution and read Sean\'s review.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends Review
game: Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends
review | 08/05/06 | Jason Perkins
Microsoft Game Studios seemed to have a slight misstep with Age of Empires III, a fun if not limited RTS that almost redeemed itself with the home city feature. Rise of Nations, another MGS production under the development of Big Head Games was a beakout hit and critically acclaimed. The sequel, Thrones and Patriots, proved that they weren\'t going to fall into the Sophomore curse. Now with Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, Big Head Studios has left the historic battleground for one of a new flavor - that of the fantastic. But while the gameplay favors variety, technical problems and some amateur voice acting hinder an otherwise spirited game.

Sony and the PS3: Are They Really Going Beyond?
editorial | 05/26/06 | RJ Brooks
The overwhelming market domination of the PS2 has been Sony\'s biggest strength, as well as their chossen ideology in the PS3\'s console design, specs, and marketing. Ironically, the PS3 is also proving that size is not everything when it goes up against innovation (Nintendo and Microsoft). What has been presented by Sony as \"the next generation\" begs the question: While the PS3\'s tag-line reads \"Go Beyond\" is Sony really taking their own advice? With a system price that exceeds both their competition combined, is Sony prepared to push themselves beyond a game of matching, and truly lead the industry?

Saint's Row Preview
game: Saint's Row
preview | 05/19/06 | RJ Brooks
Saint\'s Row comes off as another GTA clone just trying to cash in on the current fads: Gangstas + Free Roaming Play = $$$. The street cred imported through story advisors with gang affiliations? Nah, it\'s just the sucker-punching civvies as you car-jack them. That\'s gotta be it. Get the full story about Saint\'s Row in Rob\'s preview.
