game: Xbox 360
news | 02/13/06 | Shawn Rider
Jake Ludington from MediaBlab sent word of his recent posting, which details how to segment your wireless network to optimize Xbox Live performance. The tutorial focuses on Xbox 360 optimization, but we imagine it will work just as well for improving online gaming on any Xbox. And you could apply the network segmentation approach to virtually any computer on your wireless network to optimize performance. The instructions are good and the advice is sound. Check it out.
game: Dead or Alive 4
review | 01/14/06 | Tristan Mayshark
Dead or Alive is one of the most contentious franchises around: Gamers and non-gamers alike tend to either hate it or love it. But don\'t let the viscous breasts and panty-flashes overcome the quality fighter that is DOA. The series makes its next-gen debut on the Xbox 360, and it\'s a mixed bag: The graphics aren\'t going to prompt anyone to upgrade to HDTV, but the fighting game is at its height. Longtime fans are rewarded with a blending of the best features from previous installments, solid online play, and plenty of things to do, unlock, and earn. Get the full review from Tristan right here.
game: Kodai Djinns
news | 01/03/06 | Shawn Rider
Kodai Djinns are a funky new battle yoyo toy that blends several of the most popular virtual creature fads. The yoyos are computerized and feature a few buttons and a tiny LCD screen. When you open your yoyo, a creature is born, based on the 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac. Raise your creature by \"working out\" with the yoyo, and develop its skills and strengths. Eventually you will unlock solitaire minigames as well as the ability to battle other yoyos and connect to PCs for online battle gaming. Learn more right here.
game: Backyard Football 2006
review | 12/19/05 | Jeremy Kauffman
Atari\'s Backyard Football series is back, bringing the gridiron to the neighborhood playground with Backyard Football 2006, developed by longtime kid-friendly game designers, Humongous. The cartoon style and simplified gameplay are intended to bring younger audiences to the game. Is it successful? Check out Jeremy\'s review to find out.

She also has a preview of the very intriguing second-generation Xbox 360 title, Crackdown, which comes from the creator of the original GTA and Lemmings. You know you want it, and it\'s right here.
game: King Of Fighters 2002/2003
review | 10/27/05 | Matt James
King of Figthers 2002/2003 is another doublepack from SNK highlighting quality ports of their classic franchise. This time around the fighting games get a new online versus mode, but that\'s not nearly enough to make this one appealing to anyone not already a King of Fighters fan. The series is feeling dated to the uninitiated, and for most folks, King of Fighters 2002/2003 is a pass (unless you\'re planning a fun-filled evening of gaming with your dad).
game: GTR: FIA Racing
review | 10/23/05 | Chris Martin
Hardcore racing sim fans take note: GTR: FIA Racing is an out-of-left-field contender for the racing sim hall of fame. Built on real data from the FIA racing circuit, GTR: FIA Racing features tense simulations with some of the best opponent driver AI we\'ve ever seen in any racing title. It doesn\'t have the catalog of vehicles or the over-the-top graphics beauty of a Gran Turismo or Project Gotham, but this one has plenty of get up and go.
game: Happy Tree Friends: Winter Break
review | 10/19/05 | George Holomshek
When I was in high school, all the cool girls had this saying: \"That\'s so cute I just want to throw it against a wall.\" You could modify what you wanted to do to the cute thing: eat it, squish it, set it on fire. The idea was that cuteness inspires violent feelings, and it made us giggle with glee. Such is the premise of Happy Tree Friends: Cute and violent. Really violent. Like, Jack Thompson going to town in GTA violent--it kind of gets creepy sometimes. Check out George\'s review here.
game: Crackdown
news | 10/05/05 | Shawn Rider
To put it in marketing language (from all companies, not just MS), we\'ve moved beyond the era of \"GTA Clones\" and into the era of the \"action-driving\" genre. However you want to classify it, Crackdown looks like it will bring something good to the Xbox 360. It helps that Microsoft has tapped Real Time Worlds, which is headed by David Jones, and whose key members created the original Grand Theft Auto as well as Lemmings. So something good could happen here. Read on for more info about Crackdown, which should be on the must-have list for any action-driving fan.
game: Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance
review | 09/13/05 | Laurie Taylor
Combining a little bit GTA with a little bit Def Jam Vendetta, and a whole frothy can of whoop@$$, Capcom\'s Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance proves that even a somewhat flawed game can pack in a lot of fun. That is, if you can make it through the load screens. Get your b\'mup on with Laurie\'s review.
comic | 09/11/05 | Aaron Stanton
On September 10th, 2005 the Women in Games International Conference took place in Redmond, Washin
gton at the Microsoft Campus. It was both interesting and informative, and it\'s a pity that there are not more conferences like it; this is a step in the right direction for diversity in the game industry. GamesFirst will have more coverage of the conference later on, but in the mean time we couldn\'t help but include a comic reference. Check out this week\'s twoplayer comic,
How to Advertise to Women. Too many advertisers seem to take this comic to heart.
twoplayer game comics are published every Sunday at

game: Conker Live & Reloaded
review | 08/15/05 | Laurie Taylor
Conker was pretty much mindblowing when it came out for the N64. Of course, that was back in the day when GTA looked a lot like playing with Matchbox cars. Now that the gratuituous naughty humor is a bit more common in gaming, how does everyone\'s favorite raunchy squirrel hold up? Check Laurie\'s review for more.

game: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
review | 06/28/05 | Tristan Mayshark
This is a well done port of an excellent game. Despite some minor issues related to a slight lack of visual polish and a few technical quirks, GTA: San Andreas has survived the translation from Playstation very nicely.
