On behalf of the staff of GamesFirst!, we would like to take this space to wish all of our staff, readers and colleagues a happy, happy holiday season. We wouldn\'t be here without you, and we know that. On our 10th holiday season, we are thankful for all the people who have helped make GamesFirst! what it is today. Our staff is among the best online, and we value your efforts. To our fellow websites (especially the ones who kick down the kind links), we thank you. You know who you are, and you inspire us to do better. To all of the game developers, PR reps, and publishers who work with us on a daily basis, we want to extend our most sincere gratitude. We couldn\'t do what we do without your continued support, and life wouldn\'t be as much fun without you.
And, of course, we want to wish Happy Holidays to our readers. We are proud to be able to serve you for the past 10 years, and we look forward to number 11. Without you, we\'d just be posting up articles for our mothers to read, and although they never complain about our reviews or call us idiots, GF! would feel pretty empty without you. Thanks.

game: Lunar Magic
news | 11/02/05 | Aaron Stanton
Is there room on a gaming site for news that\'s not exactly new? We think so. Sometimes things that are old are still cool, even if they\'ve slumped a bit below the radar in recent years. The N64 modding community is an excellent example; modders online have been updating old N64 ROMS for years, including replacing old textures with high resolution images, cell-shaded graphics, and other nifty treats. Around for a while or not, Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still cool in our book, especially in high rez. In the same vein, if you\'re looking for something to drain away your time, check out Lunar Magic, a level editor for the SuperNES title Super Mario World. Yeah, it\'s been around for a while, but if you\'ve never seen it, it\'s new to you.
game: X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse
news | 09/10/05 | Shawn Rider
Due in October, Vicarious Visions\' PSP version of X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse looks to be a game well worth watching. The PSP has been in a serious drought lately, with lackluster titles and very few of them. It\'s a Nintendo-like wasteland of early development for PSP owners. But X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse could be a breakout hit this Fall, especially of it features a robust (and infrastructure) WiFi mode.
game: Fantastic Four
review | 08/20/05 | Eric Bodrero
Generally, \"movie\" video games fare rather poorly, as has been the case for years, but with some recent standouts, especially in the comic-to- movie-to- game adaptation category, there\'s a growing precedent for quality. So does Fantastic Four break the mold, or fall victim to yet another rushjob? Grab your spandex and jump on in for your answer.

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) has created a Special Interest Group to investigate the issue of \"sex in games.\" They\'ve gotten a handful of developers with an interest in the topic together, and they\'re investigating issues developers are currently facing. Sounds useful at the start, but Ian Bogost, noteworthy gaming journalist, has posted a critique of the effort on Watercooler Games that has us nodding our heads.

In a bold move, Microsoft teamed up with MTV to unveil their new console Xbox 360. Inside are Chris's impressions on the games, the system, and life in general.

The problem with having part of our editorial staff on the east coast and part on the west coast is that one half gets a 3 hour head start on TV specials. Shawn, based out of New York, picked up the MTV special a bit before those of us over here on the west coast did, and managed to get his thoughts up before we'd even had a chance to glimpse the brief flicker on the TV that we think must have been the MTV special it was too short and never focused on the 360 long enough for us to tell. Shawn jotted down his notes in the earlier post; now here are Aaron's thoughts on what Microsoft showed the world of their next generation game console.
game: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
review | 02/24/05 |
Knights of the Old Republic II finds itself in the difficult position of trying to improve on one of the best games in recent years. The result is a game built on tried and true game dynamics, a darker emphasis than the original, and a new story that takes you from Star Wars planet to Star Wars planet, but doesn't break ground and drops you at the end. A blast to play, but missing a little bit of that special magic that was captured in the first, KotoRII might not rock your world. David has the inside scoop.
game: Taiko Drum Master
review | 11/21/04 | Eric Qualls
Taiko Drum Master comes with a special drum controller that you have to beat in time with onscreen icons. How can a game that comes with a drum not be fun? Fans of music and rhythm games are in for a treat. And kids bent on really ticking off the 'rents. And fans of the ancient art of taiko drumming. Or, maybe not...
game: Tak
review | 01/11/04 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
Those with a hankering for some platformer action should look into Tak and the Power of Juju, especially those who are big on the Nickelodeon scene. While Tak isn't going to be up for any game of the year awards, it doesn't have any real flaws either. Does that make it a sleeper hit for Christmas? Click here to find out.
game: Alter Echo
review | 11/10/03 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
It's a crowded field out there, especially for the 3D action genre. Alter Echo is looking to make its mark with innovative gameplay and a unique style, but getting the job done well enough to earn Eric's respect is a whole other story. Is it hip enough to please? Click here to find out.
game: Rebel Strike
review | 11/01/03 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
So you feel like a Jedi, eh? Want to take down a Sith Lord or two? Well you can't vote till next November, but you can play Star Wars Rouge Squadron III: Reble Strike right now. With superb Star Wars action and an awesome co-op mode, it's one of the best games out-- especially if you ignore the parts that suck. Click here, or forever walk the path of ignorance.
game: Hannibal
preview | 06/05/03 | Aaron Stanton
Step into the role of FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling as she works to track and capture the infamous Hannibal Lechter. Hannibal promises plenty of creeptastic gameplay by implementing a stress system that works a lot like the insanity system from Eternal Darkness. This could be very cool.
