\"In every other generation, the first guy to 10 million consoles was the number one seller in the generation,\" said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in speaking to Fortune magazine. \"Did we just get an even better opportunity to be the first guy to 10 million? Yeah, of course we did.\"

Though Microsoft has only shipped 1 million Xbox 360 units in America (2 million worldwide) Ballmer was positive over the chances Microsoft will make it to 10 Million by the end of the year.

We know that when it comes to Xbox 360s, demand far exceeds supply, and so it is in the puzzled mind of this humble gamer how 1 million units over 7 months can be scaled up in order to make 9 million units in 9 months. And though Microsoft claims production is moving as fast as it can go, it is still teeth-gnawingly difficult to find a Xbox 360 anywhere but Ebay. \"We\'ve been saying \'make them faster\' before yesterday,\" said Ballmer.

While Sony bets on Blu-ray to be a deciding factor in the next gen console wars, Ballmer downplayed it, stating high definition digital media will not see a lot of content anytime this year. \"Sony\'s going to try and define that as a fundamental battleground, but I don\'t think it is a fundamental battleground,\" he said. \"I don\'t care whether it\'s Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, there\'s not going to be a lot of content in either format this year.\"

As for strategy, Microsoft plans on pushing their 360 even harder in regions that haven\'t been as successful as they\'d hoped. These include Italy, France, Spain, and Japan.

It seems it will come down to who ships the most units the quickest. And with the PS3 delay, Microsoft is in a perfect place to do just that.
