Happy 4th of July From GamesFirst.com
editorial | 07/04/06 | Aaron Stanton
Web traffic drops during the summer as gaming news runs dry and warm weather draws people away from their monitors. Fourth of July often represents the summer\'s ultimate low in traffic, and pretty much everyone in the gaming industry takes the day off. If you haven\'t had a chance to spend some time outside in the beautiful weather, now is the perfect day to step outside into the cooling evening, put away the games for a moment, and take in a part of life that doesn\'t run on electricity. Tomorrow we can return to the flash of modern life, but tonight and maybe tomorrow we here at GamesFirst are going to stretch out, light some fireworks, and enjoy a good birthday. We hope you consider doing the same. Happy Fourth of July, everyone.

Neuros Mpeg-4 Video Recorder 2: Free Your Media
game: Neuros Mpeg-4 Video Recorder 2
review | 03/13/06 | Shawn Rider
Neuros Technology has released a five ounce beauty called the Neuros Mpeg-4 Video Recorder 2. This little device is like a VCR for your memory cards: You can record any video input to Mpeg-4 format on a Compact Flash card or a Sony Memory Stick. This makes the Neuros Video Recorder 2 a very appealing device for any media-savvy PSP gamers, iPod Video owners, and anyone else with a media capable PDA. And the best part is that the Neuros player allows you to get the most from your media, enabling you to easily create non-DRM, mobile, versions of your DVDs and broadcast television shows. Dead or Alive 4 Review
game: Dead or Alive 4
review | 01/14/06 | Tristan Mayshark
Dead or Alive is one of the most contentious franchises around: Gamers and non-gamers alike tend to either hate it or love it. But don\'t let the viscous breasts and panty-flashes overcome the quality fighter that is DOA. The series makes its next-gen debut on the Xbox 360, and it\'s a mixed bag: The graphics aren\'t going to prompt anyone to upgrade to HDTV, but the fighting game is at its height. Longtime fans are rewarded with a blending of the best features from previous installments, solid online play, and plenty of things to do, unlock, and earn. Nintendo DS Trojan: Nintendophiles Get Bricks Too
news | 10/11/05 | Shawn Rider
In a shocking turn of events (and just plain weird event in general), news comes to us through several sources of a Nintendo DS Trojan. The malicious program is known as either \"hentai loader\", \"r0mloader.zip\", or \"taihen.zip\", and is designed to \'brick\' your Nintendo DS. The program promises to load either pirated game roms or hentai (a Japanese term for pornographic comics and cartoons) on your DS when loaded using a flash rom device, which makes it possible to run homebrew applications and games on the Nintendo DS.

Bizarre Creations Releases a 3-D Screenshot of Project Gotham Racing 3 for Xbox 360
game: Project Gotham Racing 3
news | 09/07/05 | Aaron Stanton
Bizarre Creations has released a panoramic 3-D screenshot of Project Gotham Racing 3 for the Xbox 360. The flash-based screenshot allows you to fly around a McLaren F1 LM to see the car from all sides, and experience a number of the graphical features Bizarre Creations is so excited about, like the blurring effect that simulates the physics of an actual camera. Note the way the light reflects off the windshield, and produces an aurora when in just the right angle from the front-left of the car. The amount of detail that has gone into this game is amazing. Check it out.

twoplayer comic: Flashlight of DOOM
comic | 06/19/05 | Aaron Stanton
Ah, Doom 3. Lots of hype, very little duck-tape. Invented by the military and named for its waterproof nature, duck-tape is apparently a technology that has been lost in the future. No alternative way to attach a flashlight to a rifle has yet to be found. Flashlight of DOOM is this week\'s twoplayer comic.Twoplayer comic is published every Sunday at http://comics.gamesfirst.com

Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
game: Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
review | 05/07/05 | Tristan Mayshark
Released just eight months after Doom 3, this expansion is not completely without flaws, but is pretty to look at, satisfying to play, and adds some much needed variety to Doom 3. It also addresses your character's original inability to wield a flashlight and a weapon at the same time. You don't get to be any more ambidextrous than last time around, but at one point you'll find yourself with a flashlight stuck to your forehead. It's not quite as ideal a solution as using duck tape to strap the light to your gun, but it's a step in the right direction. Check out the full review for more details.

Alien Hominid
game: Alien Hominid
review | 01/02/05 | Laurie Taylor
It's always good to see a game developed independent of the mainstream industry, as is the case of Alien Hominid, a side scrolling mountain of action that scores points with anyone that has a taste for old-school, Contra-style gameplay. Read why this stylistic GameCube and PS2 title is well worth your time.

Crave Entertainment brings us the latest installment in the UFC series, and fans of the franchise should be pleased with UFC Throwdown. Featuring the same in-depth, strategic fighting system, this is not one of those flashy fighters that zip along at a million miles per hour. This is the thinking feller\'s fighter. Ironic? Click.

Nintendo Gamecube Info Roundup
Articles Archive | 05/20/01 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
While there were many points of interest at E3 this year, the most consistently really crowded booth was Nintendo's, where gamers flocked, nay swarmed, to see the GameCube. For those skeptics out there who think the general mediocrity of the N64 experience has soured gamers, witness the intense interest shown for the new system. Let's face it, the N64 has suffered from a general lack of titles, and some companies have released really terrible games for it, further causing pain to gamers who have been forced to pursue the "any port in a storm" strategy (Big Mountain 2000 comes to mind, er, flashes painfully across my memory). However, there have been some very good titles, and it's no mistake that the best titles on the system have been made by Nintendo and it's 2nd party developer, Rare. Nintendo is, in many ways, the Disney of the gaming world “ they have created and continue to create incredibly popular and lasting characters, who appear in all sorts of games and have firmly lodged themselves in the hearts of mainstream USA (as well as mainstream everywhere else).

Sega Takes it Online
Articles Archive | 01/01/00 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
One of the promises of the Dreamcast was Internet connectivity right out of the box. Sega realized early on that consumers not only want to game online, but to have easy access to web sites, email, and the plethora of applications that have made the Internet and the World Wide Web so attractive. Indeed, right out of the box users could plug their new Dreamcast into the wall and get online with a few quick clicks. While the Dreamcast Web Browser 1.0 wasn't fully functional on the contemporary network, everything worked pretty well. Within a short time you could download mods for Sonic Adventure, check out the questionable content provided by IGN, kings of the misguided headline, and, most importantly, access the external web and email. Odds are, some of you are reading this article on your Dreamcast right now, so you know what I mean. Hopefully you're using the 2.0 browser, which now supports Flash and MP3s.
