Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave Review
game: Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave
review | 11/19/06 | Laurie Taylor
Her Interactive has been successful with their Nancy Drew series. Rather than trying to turn Nancy into some Lara Croft wannabe, the current line of Nancy Drew mystery games focus on adventures with compelling stories and inclusive content. These are games that make an effort to represent the real world in all its diversity and they privilege science and logic over mindless combat. That fresh perspective makes us forgive them somewhat for their gameplay hiccups. Get Laurie\'s full review here.

Nancy Drew: Danger by Design, A Fun and Girl Positive Game
game: Nancy Drew: Danger by Design
review | 09/25/06 | Laurie Taylor
Nancy Drew is fast becoming known as a video game character combating stereotypes. Yes, you read correctly, on top of being an adolescent sleuth she\'s also a kick-in-the-teeth to top-heavy, silver-haired bombshells who are so prevalent in gaming nowadays. In \"Danger by Design,\" Nancy takes on the fashion and food industries in classic adventure game point-and-click fare. Our girl game guru Lauri is here to tell us why Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is great for young girl gamers and also gets a parental--as well as political--seal of approval.

Protesting Booth Babes Kicked Out By E3 Security
news | 05/11/06 | Aaron Stanton
Booth babes have been a hot topic at E3 this year. The ESA has instigated additional enforcement policies to help control the extent to which booth babes reveal their bodies, and not everyone is happy about that. When two girls in revealing clothing showed up outside the convention center with signs that read, \"Booth Babe Protest: I\'m \"E\" for Everyone,\" and, \"Bikinis > Bullets,\" we couldn\'t help but stop for an interview. When E3 security showed up to chase them off the grounds, we also couldn\'t help but throw a press credential, a camera, and a little weight into the mix in an attempt to put it to The Man. Seems to have worked.

Super Mario Prank Threatens Homeland Security
editorial | 04/03/06 | Shawn Rider
Five girls from Ravenna, Ohio face possible charges for hanging up Super Mario Bros. question cubes around town on April Fools day. Part of a Net-wide phenomenon, hanging SMB cubes is a very cool thing. How surreal would it be to happen upon these things in real life? Apparently too surreal for the citizens of Ravenna, who called out the hazardous materials unit and the bomb squad to remove the boxes. Of course, we always knew Ohio had issues (that last election didn\'t go so well...). Get Shawn\'s reaction here.

Super Princess Peach
game: Super Princess Peach
review | 03/19/06 | Laurie Taylor
Finally, the Princess has come into her own: Super Princess Peach marks the first time longtime Mario world fave, Princess Peach, has played the lead role in her own platformer. Incorporating the touch screen and the microphone found on the Nintendo DS, Super Princess Peach offers up a great spin on classic Mario-style gaming, with an excellent level of quality. It might be a bit easy for the hardcore, but for retro fans, new gamers, and anyone looking for a hip girly game, Super Princess Peach is a must-play. Get the full details in Laurie\'s review.

Bring the super J-Pop awesomeness of Puffy Ami Yumi anywhere you want with Altron\'s Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi game, Kaznapped! Puffy Ami Yumi is a great cartoon, and their poppy, rockin\' music is some of our favorite stuff. So can the game be as good as the \'toon? Laurie takes Kaznapped! for a spin and brings back the verdict.

Twoplayer Comic: Did You Say Something?
comic | 11/15/05 | Aaron Stanton
Sometimes articles rub people the wrong way. Sometimes somebody criticises a beloved video game, or says the wrong thing in an editorial about Nintendo. Sometimes, though, they just mention the fact that they\'re a girl that happens to play games. This week\'s twoplayer comic is partially in response to the reader reaction we got from an article we published last week called, A Look Behind Alice: A Woman\'s Reason for Gaming. The character profile of a casual gamer was received with mixed results. Did You Say Something? is this week\'s twoplayer comic.

Twoplayer game comics are published weekly at http://comics.gamesfirst.com.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction Review
game: Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
review | 11/05/05 | Matt James
When done right, the synergy of comic book and videogame can fulfill the deepest desires of many a fanboy and fangirl. The latest comic game to get it right, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, is a must-play for any fan of the Hulk comics, and is tight enough to reward anyone with even a passing interest. Utilizing an open gameplay and mission scheme, Ultimate Destruction satisfies with an engrossing Hulk storyline and a living-world Hulk experience. And it\'s amazing how satisfying it is to just break sh*t.

Happy Tree Friends: Winter Break Review
game: Happy Tree Friends: Winter Break
review | 10/19/05 | George Holomshek
When I was in high school, all the cool girls had this saying: \"That\'s so cute I just want to throw it against a wall.\" You could modify what you wanted to do to the cute thing: eat it, squish it, set it on fire. The idea was that cuteness inspires violent feelings, and it made us giggle with glee. Such is the premise of Happy Tree Friends: Cute and violent. Really violent. Like, Jack Thompson going to town in GTA violent--it kind of gets creepy sometimes. Check out George\'s review here.

Trace Memory Review
game: Trace Memory
review | 10/12/05 | Laurie Taylor
Trace Memory for the Nintendo DS is a bold take on what an adventure game can be, and it provides a whole new take on the concept of \"all killer, no filler.\" Trace Memory clocks in at a very brief five or six hours, which is definitely not the norm in gaming these days, but those are some of the most enjoyable five or six hours we\'ve seen in an adventure game. Our resident academic gamer, Laurie Taylor, takes a look at this unique title.

After a bit of technical difficulty put a momentary hold on last week\'s twoplayer comic, we\'re back on the road again. While it\'s possible that more attractive people might have better luck talking to girls at coffee shops, nerds like myself understand the dangers of attempting to approach pretty much anyone. The world is a risky place, more for some than others. Check out Dangers of Dating, the most recent twoplayer comic.

game: E3 2005: Aeon Flux: A First Look
preview | 05/28/05 | Monica Hafer
Aeon Flux has become a cult phenomenon. With a movie and a game launching almost simultaneously, we'll have enough fluxifaction to sustain even a city park full of fanboys (and girls). We have first impressions of the game directly from the E3 floor and Monica talked with game Producer Raymond Holmes about the title.
