PS3 Backwards Compatibility Makes PS2 Games Look Terrible
game: Playstation 3
editorial | 12/14/06 | Aaron Stanton
The PS3 has not had an easy launch. While the mainstream media has been treating the system very MTV-like (with unquestioning adoration), Sony\'s street credit amongst the hardcore has been taking almost daily blows. From problems with HDTV support to shortages at launch, Sony just hasn\'t been getting the positive consumer response they probably wanted. Now, Joystiq.com is reporting on a YouTube video that highlights just how bad PS2 games look when run on the PS3\'s backwards compatibility. The side-by-side comparison video between a PS2 game running on the PS3 vs. an actual PS2 is really fairly stunning. The PS2 beats the PS3 hands down, and does so clearly enough that you don\'t have to be picky to notice the difference. Check out the article for more information.

Brand New Perfect Dark Zero Screen, Music, Bio
game: Perfect Dark Zero
news | 09/30/05 | Shawn Rider
Perfect Dark Zero has so far been one of the most enigmatic Xbox 360 launch titles. After showing us glimpses of 50 player multiplayer on their MTV Xbox 360 unveiling, we expected to see PDZ at E3. But it wasn\'t there. It was at Tokyo Game Show, and we recently posted some links to some shakey-cam footage of PDZ gameplay which has us all debating the relative greatness potential for the game. Details are still slow to come out about Perfect Dark Zero, but we have one screen and an MP3 of one of the music tracks from the game to pass on.

news | 09/03/05 | Shawn Rider
Midway has sent us some screens from LA Rush, an arcade racer featuring loads of real-world vehicles and licenses from MTV\'s Pimp My Ride. This looks like a high-flying crash-em-up, but dare we hope for the pure adrenaline bliss of Burnout 2? We\'ll find out with the rest of you in October, when LA Rush hits store shelves.

A 2nd (and better) Xbox 360 Unveiling
Articles Archive | 05/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
The MTV Xbox 360 unveiling that took place last night was a bit of a let-down for most of us here at GamesFirst. The show was catchy, with lots of scene cuts, music, and cheering crowds, but revealed almost nothing about the actual system. While it confirmed a few rumors that have been floating around, it didn't do much else, and every picture of the system came and went too fast to get a good look. There's another Xbox 360 unveiling video though, and it's available on the web. This second video is well put together and offers a better look at the actual system.

Aaron's Xbox 360 MTV Special Impressions
Articles Archive | 05/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
The problem with having part of our editorial staff on the east coast and part on the west coast is that one half gets a 3 hour head start on TV specials. Shawn, based out of New York, picked up the MTV special a bit before those of us over here on the west coast did, and managed to get his thoughts up before we'd even had a chance to glimpse the brief flicker on the TV that we think must have been the MTV special “ it was too short and never focused on the 360 long enough for us to tell. Shawn jotted down his notes in the earlier post; now here are Aaron's thoughts on what Microsoft showed the world of their next generation game console.

Editorial: Notes Scribbled in the Dark While Watching a Really Long Xbox Commercial
Articles Archive | 05/12/05 | Shawn Rider
"Everybody here is in, obviously." Obviously. We haven't seen this kind of "drank the punch" vigor since Election 2004. In a move sure to annoy others much more than it annoys us (mainly because we don't get invited to the really good events anyway), Microsoft revealed the Xbox on MTV tonight. Shawn watched it, and while he did, he scribbled these notes.

Dreamcast
Articles Archive | 09/09/99 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
Today is the day. They are calling it "the biggest day in entertainment history." Why? The release of Sega's Dreamcast and Final Fantasy VIII. These momentous events, coupled with MTV's Video Music Awards, whose viewers will be barraged with Dreamcast advertisements, make it a pretty good day. With perhaps the largest cult following of any current series, Final Fantasy VIII is already blowing the minds of faithful denizens. The success of the latest FF installment was never in doubt. Sales will rise exponentially as the holiday season approaches. In fact, schoolyard gossip could spark a remarkable rise in sales this weekend. But what about Sega?
