The Simpsons Game: Best. Simpsons Game. Ever.
game: The Simpsons Game
review | 04/06/08 | Shawn Rider
The Simpsons are a perennial videogame topic. Many of the games created in the franchise are utterly forgettable. (Anyone up for a round of Simpsons Wrestling? Didn't think so...) But there have been a few well-done Simpsons games: Simpsons Hit and Run (a GTA clone) and The Simpsons Road Rage (a Crazy Taxi clone) were both enjoyable. The Simpsons Game isn't a direct rip-off of any particular game. It sticks to a platform/action approach and uses the whole world of videogames for its satirical fodder. The result is a Simpsons game that may be slightly less polished in terms of gameplay but is easily the game that feels most like a real Simpsons episode. Check out our review for more.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Review
game: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
review | 11/21/07 | George Holomshek
Harmonix may have moved on to Rock Band, but the Guitar Hero franchise still goes strong. The third Guitar Hero features online play, a great song list, and the best fake guitar money can buy. But did Tony Hawk developer Neversoft shred this one up too much? Do a few glaring issues keep this hero from saving the day?

E For All
news | 11/19/07 | Monica Hafer
E For All made its debut last month, attempting to be the more democratic, "everyman's" convention in the videogame industry. While its stature was smaller than E3 had been in the past, it certainly had a heck of a lot of heart. Monica was our eyes and ears on the scene of what might be the herald of a new focus in the world of game marketing and development.

We travel fathoms under the ocean to Rapture, a city built on the most basic of ideals: "a man is entitled to the sweat from his brow." A dystopia, like all dystopias, are built to fail. We are not surprised then, when Rapture, brainchild of Andrew Ryan, takes on water (by the deciliters), and you're trapped right in the middle of it. Full impressions and expectations inside.

news | 08/07/07 | Chris Martin
Another attempt by yet another state of the union to pass an unconstitutional bill prohibiting the sale of 'violent' videogames to minors has been squashed.

The bill, which would have imposed a $1000 dollar fine on any retailer if they sold a violent video game to minors, has before now seen preliminary injunction in late 2005, otherwise it would have gone into effect January 1, 2006. Since then the bill was pending investigation...

Lunar Knights Review
game: Lunar Knights
review | 05/10/07 | Amanda Bateman
In Lunar Knights, you take control of two different heroes, Lucian and Aaron, one powered by the sun, one powered by the moon, in an attempt to free the world from the vampiric legion. If you are familiar with the Vampire Hunter (Baktai GBA) series, you're already familiar with Lunar Knights. It is, however, Kojima Productions' first foray on the Nintendo DS, and it's one worth a look.

Student Declared Witch and Burned for Making In-Game Map of High School.
editorial | 05/02/07 | Aaron Stanton
When a student at Clements High School in Texas made a video game mod based on the layout of his local high school, he probably didn't expect the reaction it eventually received. Two months after the map was created, the Virginia Tech shootings happened, and authorities took the students map as a threat. Not only was he removed from the campus grounds and sent to an alternative school, he's been bared from participating in graduation. Yet no one seems to believe that he actually represented a threat to the community - in that no one seems convinced he was on the verge of picking up a gun and shooting someone. The only problem is that he did something that - some people, at least - connect to events like Virginia Tech. In other words, it didn't matter that he wasn't really a witch, merely that he looked enough like one to be punished.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin Review
game: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
review | 04/06/07 | Amanda Bateman
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In Portrait of Ruin, a picture is full of a thousand demons. A thousand demons about to be cut down by whips and giant crosses, that is. In the second Castlevania title for the Nintendo DS, take control of two characters and get ready to tangle with Dracula. While very much in line with the rest of the series, there are a few surprises herein for fans of the series. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin might be right up your alley if you're in the mood for a good adventure game, a few puzzles, and lots of bosses.

Lost Planet Review
game: Lost Planet
review | 02/15/07 | Chris Martin
Capcom has been firing on all cyllinders when it comes to the Xbox 360 and gamers with that small white box could not be happier. Following their critically received efforts of Dead Rising, Lost Planet is a third-person shooter set on the fictitious ice-planet E.D.N. III where there are snow pirates around every corner and loads of alien Akrid. This unique IP blends a "vastness" found in sci-fi novels like Frank Herbert's Dune with an overly complex (the word would be: incomprehensible) storyline. What you get is an action-filled shooter that manages, once or twice, to even shoot itself in the foot.

Gothic 3 Review
game: Gothic 3
review | 02/03/07 | Sean Hilliard
The Gothic series has been a cult fave for quite awhile, rivaling that RPG juggernaut, The Elder Scrolls, for the hearts and minds of hardcore PC gamers. The latest, Gothic 3, has drawn a lot of (mostly unfavorable) comparison to Oblivion, but our man Sean Hilliard thinks there is another popular game that Gothic 3 draws from: World of Warcraft. Check out Sean's review of one of the most derided cult favorites of 2007.
