Metal Slug 4 & 5
game: Metal Slug 4 & 5
review | 09/16/05 | Matt James
Metal Slug 4/5 from SNK Playmore brings the classic Metal Slug 2D sidescroller to the Xbox once again, this time in a double-game combo pack. The inclusion of two games is good, because these things are quick plays. But if you\'ve worn out the analog stick on your NGPC, then you know you\'re in the target audience here. For the rest of us, Matt James tells us why this is a \"renter\" rather than a \"buyer\".

Serious Sam II Screenshots
game: Serious Sam II
news | 09/06/05 | Aaron Stanton
It\'s only about a month until Serious Sam II appears on the scene, and the screens are looking sweet. Serious Sam II is the second in a series of wacky first person shooters made famous by its complete disregard for any sense of reality. As Sam Stone, you\'ll face hundreds of enemies per level, fire thousands of bullets, and battle everything from stereotypical gothic chicks to evil stockbrokers. Unlike many recent FPS titles, which are dark, gloomy, and slow paced, Serious Sam II promises to keep things light and happy... well... funny, at least.

game: E3 2005: Hands-on With Gears of War
preview | 05/24/05 | Aaron Stanton
One of the more polished games shown for the Xbox 360 at E3 2005, Gears of War is an over-the-shoulder shooter with a style reminiscent of Brute Force, only fun to play. While the world was wondering what the next generation titles would look like, screens from Gears of War have been on the Internet since E3 2004, when they were shown off under a different name for an Unreal 3 engine demonstration. Now we get to see more details about how the game plays as Aaron checks out the title behind closed doors.

game: E3 2005: Prey Press Demonstration
preview | 05/19/05 | Chris Martin
3d Realms seems to have been under the radar for a while. Duke Nukem Forever might be just a pipe-dream, but let me assure you 3d Realms' new title "Prey" is very much a reality. One of the real jems on the E3 floor, it blew our freakin' socks off - way beyond what we've seen in sample videos before! Impressions and screens inside.

Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30
game: Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30
review | 04/07/05 | Chris Martin
In a genre crowded with other titles based on similar concepts, how can a World War II FPS distinguish itself? In Brothers in Arms' case, you simply craft an experience with such detail and attention to the atmosphere of war that the player can't help but feel the bullets zipping by their head. Put aside all those other games that try to offer authentic WWII fighting experience; no one does the job quite as well as Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30. Be sure to read the full review.
