BioShock DLC and Plasmid Details
game: BioShock
news | 12/06/07 | Chris Martin
The other day we posted about BioShock\'s new DLC, stating new plasmids and the ability to turn off vita-chambers. There\'s more, don\'t worry. We\'ve got the details on the new plasmids, as well as the answer to \"what the hell does Horizontal FOV actually do?\" While 2K ponders a sequel to BioShock, we can, at least, enjoy the bliss that is the first, again, if we so desire, we and our brass balls.

BioShock Review
game: BioShock
review | 08/31/07 | Chris Martin
From the article: \"BioShock is the latest effort from Irrational Studios (now 2K Boston and 2K Australia) and it\'s a massive undertaking, many years in the making. And it\'s so good, we might not see a game of it\'s caliber many years after. BioShock is a shooter, a retro sci-fi thriller, a revenge story, a dystopian allegory, an adventure, and to a lesser extent a role-playing game. But BioShock is first and foremost a first-person-shooter. It leaves no question in the player\'s mind, and doesn\'t dance around it\'s pedigree in the way Deus Ex did, or the way System Shock 2 was sparse on the shooter side, heavy on the RPG. No. BioShock is a game where you definitely have to kill things. And kill things aplenty.\"

BioShock BioShock BioShock Bioshock...BioShock!
game: BioShock
news | 08/29/07 | Chris Martin
Tired of news about BioShock? We hear you. While our review is still baking in the oven, getting crispy on the edges, we came across a neat little factoid for all you fans of the old jest: \"My game is better, ha, ha!\" For it appears that BioShock not only has become critically received as one of the best games of all time, not only this year. According to www.Gamerankings.com, Bioshock has supplanted Resident Evil 4 in the #4 highest ranked game of all time, just below The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64), Soul Calibur (DC), and Metroid Prime (GC).

A 'Rapturous' Hands-On
game: BioShock
preview | 08/15/07 | Chris Martin
We travel fathoms under the ocean to Rapture, a city built on the most basic of ideals: \"a man is entitled to the sweat from his brow.\" A dystopia, like all dystopias, are built to fail. We are not surprised then, when Rapture, brainchild of Andrew Ryan, takes on water (by the deciliters), and you\'re trapped right in the middle of it. Full impressions and expectations inside.

Bioshock Demo On Xbox Live
game: Bioshock
news | 08/13/07 | Chris Martin
This came out of nowhere. The studio formerly known as Irrational (they changed their two divisions\' names to 2K Australia and 2K Boston) get a big pat on the back for sneaking their demo onto Xbox Live on Sunday. Bioshock, which puts you through the eyes of a crash victim who gets stuck in the underwater dystopia known only as Rapture, just went gold last week. Now, we\'ll get to sample what we\'re betting is going to be a ground-braking experience.

What does that mean for this summer?

When In-Game Advertising Ruins Your Game
game: Dungeon Siege 2: Broken World
news | 08/16/06 | Aaron Stanton
In-game advertising will have a large impact on the future of the game industry. Not only can it represent another form of post-release content delivery, it helps fund the developers that make the games we love. However, there\'s bound to be some bad implementations as the technology gets going, where game companies test their boundaries to see what gamers will accept. 2K and Gas Powered Games included a voiced NPC in Dungeon Siege II: Broken World that directly references an upcoming PSP game, and it\'s sparked a bit of a negative response from gamers. Take a look here for the details.

CivCiy: Rome Preview
game: CivCity: Rome
preview | 05/22/06 | Blaine Krumpe
Combining elements from classic strategy games like Civilization and classic sim games like SimCity, CivCity: Rome from 2K Games focuses on the Roman Empire at a level we haven\'t seen before. This top down strategy puts you in control of Rome on the ground level, starting you off as a lowly farmer and letting you rise to the level of Caesar, if you\'re good enough. You\'ll not only choose which buildings are built within your city, but how they\'re managed and how smoothly they function. CivCity: Rome looks to be a genre blending title that\'s built by people that know what they\'re doing. Take a look at our preview for more information.

My Oblivion Wife, or: Of Orcish Bondage
game: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
feature | 04/21/06 | Shawn Rider
Oblivion is a big game -- HUGE. And although many of its inhabitants have interesting problems, not many become long-lasting friends. And virtually none become companions (except that annoying fan guy). You can\'t even have a pet in Oblivion, although that lady in Chorral just flaunts her two super-awesome wolves. Fortunately, thanks to an odd glitch in the game that prevents him from completing the Knights of the White Stallion quest, Shawn has figured out how to keep himself a mighty fine Orc wife, Mazoga. (That is, if you count bride-knapping as \"marriage.\") Get the full story here.

In Search of a Cure for Vampirism in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
how-to | 04/18/06 | Chris Martin
Oblivion is one of the first games to really be a system seller for the Xbox 360 (that is, if you can find a 360). One of the quirks of the game is the ability to contract diseases - more specifically, you can contract Vampirism. The quest for a cure is one of the longest and most complicated of Oblivion, and also one of the most interesting. You\'ll find yourself weighing the trade-off between huge stat-bounces and the ability to withstand sunlight and quick-travel between towns. If you\'re a little confused about what Vampirism does for you, does against you, and how to cure it, Chris Martin\'s guide to curing vampirism is for you.
